Starting with a conversation
Student volunteers explored the everyday questions that can make a first semester difficult. Groups practised welcoming conversations and discussed how to offer help without making assumptions about a classmate’s needs.
Support with clear boundaries
The workshop distinguished peer support from professional advice. Mentors discussed how to help students find the appropriate campus office and how to respect privacy when someone shares a concern.
Volunteers finished by planning small-group introductions for incoming students and agreeing on a simple way to collect feedback after each session.
